Mission

The Alberto Hurtado University Faculty of Law emphasizes the pursuit of social justice, providing comprehensive and excellent training at all levels. We also generate high quality research and collaborate in the analysis and solution of legal problems of public interest.

Vision

To be recognized nationally and internationally as a law school of excellence in the training of lawyers, committed to social justice and the rule of law. Additionally, to be recognized as leaders in the generation of knowledge through research and graduate programs, and to contribute to society in legal, judicial and public policy issues.

Undergraduate program (LLB)

In 2024, the Faculty of Law has 1,050 undergraduate students, who are trained according to an innovative and competency-oriented curriculum.[3]

The faculty consists of 25 full-time professors and 155 adjunct professors. In order to offer personalized training, courses are divided into smaller sections with a reduced number of students. More than 80% of the faculty members have graduate degrees (LLM, MSc or PhD) from prestigious national or foreign universities.

The Faculty of Law is organized in 7 departments: Legal Sciences, Private Law, Public Law, Criminal Law, Procedural Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution, Business and Labor Law, and Law Clinic.

Graduate programs

The Faculty of Law offers a Ph.D. in Law (SJD)[4]. Doctoral students specialize in one of the four research lines: Evidentiary Reasoning, Criminal Law and Sociocultural Change, Constitutional Law and Social Justice, and Torts and Contracts.

The Faculty of Law also offers an LLM in Public Law, and more than 20 continuing education programs, including postgraduate degrees in Administrative Law, Labor Law, and Criminal Law Theory and Practice, as well as certificates in Private Law, Compliance, Family Law, Public Safety, Procedural Law, Conflict Resolution, and Human Rights.[5]

In 2025, the LLM in Trial Skills and Procedural Law will be inaugurated.

Research

In terms of research, the Faculty of Law focuses on the problematization and construction of new legal knowledge, which is a fundamental pillar for strengthening the discipline and also for the development of interdisciplinary research.

Scholars and researchers of the Faculty of Law are committed to scientific production of high quality and social impact. Faculty members regularly lead and participate in research projects financed by national and foreign funds. The main products of scientific research are books, book chapters, articles published in peer-review journals, in addition to the regular organization of seminars, conferences and workshops.

Social engagement

The Faculty of Law prioritizes projects of national and community impact, aligned with undergraduate training and collaborative work between teachers, staff and students. Among the main ones are the Constitutional Nucleus, the Legal Clinics, the “Barrio Brasil” Project in Downtown Santiago, the Early Work Placement Program, among numerous community service activities[6].
